Today I utilized my classmate Stephanie's feedback and got my colleagues involved with my presentation by doing a run through of my presentation and practice the goal setting and modelling. The presentation was well received, but a little over time, so I will have to adjust my presentation to allow for more opportunities for spontaneous questions as my classmate Alana mentioned would be good to encourage.
I practiced modelling the procedures I was teaching in this presentation by working on my "think aloud" skills to demonstrate my thought process. My colleagues really enjoyed this as they believe it will answer a lot of questions our new administrators may have or will come across soon.
To ensure I am confident on my knowledge, I asked my colleagues to ask me random questions that may stump me. Thankfully I wasn't stumped and hopefully I won't be in the presentation! But if I am, I will take it as a good opportunity to learn further and demonstrate to the administrators that I too seek help when I have exhausted all other means of seeking my answer.
It wasn't until today that I realized how much my presentation skills and knowledge have improved from the process of not only creating this presentation, but gaining feedback from my colleagues and Director. I had to make sure I not only was prepared for their questions, but learned from the feedback they gave me.
I also find that by setting goals I maintained my motivation to complete this task and helped reduce any anxiety I have over presenting! I feel my efficacy on the subject has increased and am as prepared as I'll ever be for the presentation on Thursday!!
